About Sail Sarasota, Inc.
Sail Sarasota Inc. works in collaboration with the Sarasota Sailing Squadron to enhance the on-the-water educational program, focusing on both water safety and environmental awareness. Sail Sarasota Inc., a 501c3 operates from the Sarasota Sailing Squadron property, alongside with Sarasota Youth Sailing to serve the membership and community.
Promoting Education
The Sarasota Sailing Squadron teaches adults to sail and to race. Basic sailing skills and good boat handling promote water safety as well as provide relaxing recreation. Racing fleets are both instructive and social groups of people with the same interest. Competitive racing exists on a regional, national, and international level.
Promoting Safety on the Water
Safety is always part of the race committee plan for sailing. The Sarasota Sailing Squadron offers powerboat safety, race management training for their members. Our safety boats have a skipper and crew trained to handle on-water problems. The Squadron monitors the weather and advises the race committee.
Donations
Sail Sarasota, Inc. welcomes monetary, vessel, and equipment donations as well as donations of time. When members of the sailing community decide they no longer need their current boats with commercial value, they are able to donate them to Sail Sarasota and receive a tax deduction. The vessels are repurposed for teaching or training, or sold for funds which are used to support educational programs.
Our Story
With your support, Sail Sarasota Inc. will be able to create a greater public awareness of our local, environmental assets like Sarasota Bay. By getting more people safely on the water we will have the opportunity to increase the awareness of our local ecology and teach people the value of protecting this environment.
